Doily Art

I have to admit that my poor little desk area took a beating in grad school, and was left deserted for a few months after I graduated. However, I am now gainfully employed and working from home, so I needed to spruce up my workspace. I saw this inspiration post on Pinterest, and decided to make some art for above my desk.

Inspiration:

My version:

The inspiration post used peel & stick doilies. I didn't find any of these at the craft store, so I used regular paper doilies (these are often found in the baking/cake decorating section). I already had my two canvases and some metallic paint, so this was a very cheap project! I painted the canvas first, then painted all of the doilies before gluing them on with Mod Podge. I sealed the whole canvas with glossy Mod Podge afterwards. I think they look pretty great, and you really can't get much easier than this.

Bridal Shower Part 1: Doily Runner

Hello Craftsters!

I had an extremely exciting weekend filled with the culmination of TONS of craft projects. The occasion? My awesome soon-to-be sister-in-law had her bridal shower/bachelorette party, and (as she is so understanding and accepting of my crafting obsession), allowed me free rein in coming up with some decor (and by "come up with," I mean take directly from Pinterest). I won't put everything up at once... don't want to cause anyone to have a crafting overload!

Craft #1. Here's the inspiration (just a pic, no link, sorry!):

And here is my version:

Lace Doily Runner

Cost: Free (doilies loaned from my friend Lindsey's mom)

Rating: Excellent

Comments: This looks great! Calling it a craft project may be a bit of a stretch, since all I really did was lay doilies out on a table, but it looks really good! (This was the table that held all the food at the shower.) I believe in the inspiration photo the doilies are sewn together; I tried this and they bunched up a lot, so I decided it wasn't worth it.
